Chamath Palihapitiya, Chairman of the Board of Directors

Chamath Palihapitiya is the founder and CEO of Social Capital. Chamath has founded six companies and currently serves on the board of nine other companies, including Syapse Inc. and remind101. Prior to founding Social Capital, Chamath was a member of the senior executive team at Facebook (from 2007 to 2011), and prior to that he held leadership positions at Mayfield Fund (from 2006-2007), AOL (from 2004 to 2005) and Winmap (from 2000-2001).

George Whitesides, CEO

George T. Whitesides is the CEO of Virgin Galactic, Sir Richard Branson’s human spaceflight venture, and The Spaceship Company, a manufacturer of advanced space vehicles. With its innovative spacecraft, the company seeks to transform access to space to change the world for good.

Prior to Virgin Galactic, George served as Chief of Staff for NASA. Upon departure from the American space agency, he received the Distinguished Service Medal, the highest award the agency confers.

George’s volunteer service includes boards of the Commercial Spaceflight Federation (Vice Chair), Caltech’s Space Innovation Council, the Antelope Valley Board of Trade, Princeton University’s Advisory Council for Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Space Technologies (previously as co-chair). He is a fellow of the UK Royal Aeronautical Society and an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

He previously served as chair of the Reusable Launch Vehicle Working Group for the FAA’s Commercial Space Transportation Advisory Committee, and a member of the Board of Trustees of Princeton University and the board of Virgin Unite USA. George has testified on American space policy before the United States Senate, the United States House of Representatives, and the President’s Commission on Implementation of United States Space Exploration Policy. An honors graduate of Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School, George later earned a master’s degree in geographic information systems and remote sensing from the University of Cambridge, and a Fulbright Scholarship to Tunisia. George is a licensed private pilot and certified parabolic flight coach.

He resides in Lancaster, California with his wife Loretta and two children.

Wanda Austin, Board Director

Wanda Austin previously served as the President and CEO of The Aerospace Corporation, the nation’s preeminent space mission assurance organization. She currently serves as a board member for Amgen, Chevron Corporation and the Space Foundation. From 2015 to January 2017, Dr. Austin served on the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. She has also served on the U.S. Human Spaceflight Review Committee from 2009 to 2010 and the NASA Advisory Council from 2005 to 2007 and 2014 to 2017.

Adam Bain, Board Director

Adam Bain currently serves as a director of Social Capital Hedosophia Holdings Corp. and previously served as COO of Twitter, Inc. Prior to Twitter, Adam spent 13 years running product and business teams at Newscorp, where he was President of the Fox Audience Network. Adam currently serves as a member of the board of GOAT Group, an online apparel marketplace.

Craig Kreeger, Board Director

Craig Kreeger served as CEO of Virgin Atlantic from February 2013 through December 2018. Prior to his tenure at Virgin Atlantic, Craig spent 27 years at American Airlines where he held a variety of commercial, operational, financial and strategic roles.

Evan Lovell, Board Director

Evan Lovell is a Partner at Virgin Group Holdings Limited. Prior to joining Virgin Group, Evan was a Founding Partner of Virgin Green Fund from 2007 to 2012, an Investment Professional at TPG Capital from 1998 to 2007, and Director of International Development of Culligan International from 1994 to 1998.

George Mattson, Board Director

George Mattson has extensive professional and financial experience as a public company director in the airline industry. He has served as a director for Delta Air Lines, Inc. since October 2012 and on the board of directors of the Air France KLM Group since November 2017. Prior to this, George spent 18 years in investment banking at Goldman, Sachs & Co. from 1994 to 2012 and served as a Partner and Co-Head of the Global Industrials Group from 2002 to 2012.

James Ryans, Board Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee

James Ryans is a director of Social Capital Hedosophia Holdings Corp. Prior to Social Capital, James served as a director at Groundspeed Analytics Inc., as Director of Investments and Business Development at Chelsea Rhone LLC and as a Senior Consultant at Deloitte & Touche. James has been a professor of accounting at London Business School since 2016. He is a member of the CFA Society of the UK and currently serves the global CFA Institute in various program support roles.
